Martha Duran

MD Services - Medical Credentialing

With the high demand and need for medical credentialing companies and the passion for helping others Martha Duran was inspired to start her own medical credentialing business after being laid off on January 7, 2011 due to down sizing by her employer.

Shortly after joining the credentialing department for her previous employer, a medical billing company, Martha was promoted to head of the department. Her work ethics, honesty, attention to detail and always willing to take on any assigned project led to her quick promotion. Previously, she worked in a medical office for 10+ years as an office manager supervising all aspects of the front-end and back office.

After being laid off, Martha used her knowledge, incredible energy, and understanding of the needs in the medical field to start the process of opening her own business.  She first came to the Alliance for business counseling and research assistance. Over the 4-5 months of putting a comprehensive development plan together Martha also completed a 12-week management training course called "NxLevel for Entrepreneurs" offered through the Alliance SBDC. Martha says, “throughout my carrier in the medical field I have continued to take on-going training courses. NxLevel helped me focus my past knowledge and skills with new business skills that help me successfully launch my new business”.

With the assistance of SBDC consultants Mary Carson, Pat Newby, Alan Seaton, and Jamie Cimoli, Martha opened her doors in early May, 2011 with a minimal investment of $2,500 for office equipment and creating one job (herself). Martha is quickly expanding her new medical credentialing company, MD Services and is using the SBDC to create marketing concepts and target new prospects.  She explains her rapid success as, “I felt I needed to offer more of a personal “one to one” service and help medical doctors understand the credentialing process so that they can continue to focus on patient care. She adds, “I would like to thank the Alliance for all the support, guidance and the tools I have received from them in helping me execute my plan in getting my business up and running.  I have truly been blessed as I now have clients in Northern and Southern CA.”

”Special thanks to Kurt, Pat, Mary of the SBDC and Paula Chiarmonte of the Alliance for all their special support and encouragement.”
